Looming Lady Blog
In honor of Easter I decided to make up some hats for charity. I’ve got one made up this weekend – I hope to make 4 more this week. We’ll see how it goes. This hat was simple, but I hope someone will enjoy it’s warmth and cheerful stripes. Here how I did it. I used an adult Knifty Knitter loom with 36 pegs and orange and black yarn. The project also requires a loom hook and yarn needle. You will learn how to change colors and also how to make vertical stripes. Are you ready? E-wrap each peg 3 times around. Rounds 1 -15, knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Cut a long tail of color A. Round 16, attach color B and e-wrap each peg around. As you wrap, carry your tail of A over the stitches. See the picture below for an example. This weaves in the old color behind the new color. Knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Rounds 17-20, e-wrap each peg around, knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Cut color B. Round 21, attach color A and e-wrap each peg around, carrying your tail of color B around. Knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Rounds 22-30, e-wrap each peg around, knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Round 31, attach color B and e-wrap each peg around, carrying your tail of color A around. Knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Rounds 32-35, e-wrap each peg around, knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Cut a long tail. Round 36, attach color A and e-wrap each peg around, carrying your tail of color B around. Knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Rounds 37 -39, e-wrap each peg around, knit bottom loop over top 2 loops around. Round 40, wrap each peg around, lift 2 bottom loops over top loop. 1 loop on each peg. Round 50, cut long tail. Using the yarn needle, pull tail through the loop on each peg and lift off, drawing the circle closed. Secure the tail carefully, over sewing all around. Trim all threads. With color B, e-wrap 1 peg and knit 30 stitches. Cast off, leaving a long tail. This will create a chain. Make 4. Use the yarn needle and weave the chain vertically (upward) to the top loop. Bring your needle down the back of the last loop and up through the front, creating a slip stitch. Repeat at the bottom with your beginning tail. Repeat every 9 stitches apart. Trim the bottom threads. Take 4 threads in color b and tie each thread around the top loop between each vertical chain. Use a single thread to tie the top tails and ties closed. Trim the pompom you just created. Enjoy. How to change colors.
